| | | The beauty
of these finely cast 19th century gilded bronze fireplace Andirons was hidden
under years of smoke, dust and baked-on oil with grime and residue. This pair
was carefully cleaned using a series of gentle solvent baths, degreaser and mild
detergents. The surfaces were then waxed to preserve the brilliance of the original
French Doré gold surface exhibiting a subtle patina. The sculpture
and metals department provides a wide variety of conservation services for stone
and metal objects. In addition to cleaning and polishing, silver teapots with
dents or broken lids, loose feet or spouts and damaged sterling flatware from
the disposal can be reformed or repaired to be as good as new. Bronze, iron and
spelter sculpture can be soldered or welded and any missing elements fabricated.
Stone statuary or marble tabletops can be reconstructed and chips filled in. Specialized
